From all over the world "Sports Center in Chinese Liangsan"

The sports center in Liangsan (China) is a way out of an outdated mentality.
In recent years, the education system in China has been successfully developed and this process finds its reflection in the architecture. The new sports center of the Beijing Institute of Technology, built in 2019, embodies a new educational model: inspiring learning process in an active open space. On an area of more than 15 thousand square meters there are a basketball hall with 3.000 seats, a 10 lane swimming pool, halls for martial arts, table tennis, etc. The authors of the Atelier Alter Architects project managed to realize a very ambitious idea. Inspired by the architecture of ancient China, the developers have created a conceptual combination in a modern style.
The shape of the building has a complex configuration – "trajectory parabolas" and that creates the effect of a double curvature, turning into smooth curves of the roof of the building. Technological aesthetics are embodied by undulating roof in combination with open spaces, through which light penetrates into the building. Complex architectural forms suggest high-tech finishing, which will emphasize the singularity of the project and will be in use for many years in difficult climatic conditions. Such parametric design needs an external coating.
The wavy volumes, built in a spatial frame, are covered with a seam roof on top, and aluminium panels with a mosaic texture on the bottom. Taking into account the negative impact of the climate of these latitudes, it was only possible to implement such a huge plan with the help of aluminium panels that are resistant to wind, moisture and frost. And what is also important – such a solution made it possible to save the budget from the planned costs of external design significantly.
